MUNICIPAL COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL MEETING: A STEP TOWARDS COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, July 5, 2024 -The 2nd Floor of the SB Conference Room at the Municipal Hall buzzed with activity as the Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC) convened for a crucial meeting under the leadership of its chairperson, Masdi A. Hasim, the Cooperative Development Officer of Ipil. This gathering was dedicated to discussing and planning activities for two significant upcoming events: the International Day of Cooperatives on July 6, 2024, and the celebration of Araw ng Ipil on July 26, 2024.

The council, comprising representatives from various local cooperatives, delved into the details of the following agenda: Activities for the International Day of Cooperatives and the Celebration of Araw ng Ipil. In alignment with the global celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives, the council resolved to organize a tree planting activity. This initiative underscores the cooperatives’ commitment to economic and social improvement, recognizing that environmental consciousness is integral to such progress. By planting trees, cooperatives are not only contributing to ecological sustainability but also fostering a sense of responsibility and unity among community members.

For the Araw ng Ipil festivities, the council decided to hold a food drive and a medical drive in selected critical areas. These areas are often overlooked or neglected due to their inaccessibility, leaving residents without adequate government or other forms of aid. Cooperatives, being rooted in the philosophy of mutual aid and support, aim to enhance not only the economic well-being of communities but also the quality of life.

Through these drives, they hope to address urgent needs and bring relief to underserved populations, embodying the true spirit of cooperative principles. Municipal Cooperative Development Councils (MCDCs) serve as vital partners of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) within local government units. Their role is pivotal in driving the cooperative movement forward, with the ultimate goal of fostering societal and economic improvements within communities. Through collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives, MCDCs strive to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.

As the meeting concluded, the sense of solidarity and purpose among the council members was palpable. The resolutions passed are a testament to the cooperatives’ enduring commitment to making a positive impact on society, reinforcing the belief that collective action can indeed bring about meaningful change.
