STRENGTHENING COOPERATIVE SKILLS: MANDATORY TRAINING FOR MICRO COCONUT FARMERS COOPERATIVES IN ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR

A two-day mandatory training for micro cooperatives under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) was successfully conducted at Four Queens Resort in Pagadian City. The event brought together 85 participants from five registered coconut farmers cooperatives in Zamboanga del Sur: Dinas Small Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (DISCOFARMCO), Bag-ong Kauswagan Coconut Farmers Marketing Cooperative, Bulawan Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative, Sugbay Uno Small Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative, and Maraya Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative.

The training commenced with inspirational messages from CDA Board Member III/CMPL Cluster Head Assistant Secretary Pendatun Disimban and Regional Director Ruben L. Cunanan, JD. They provided updates on the CFIDP and highlighted ongoing programs under the CMPL, motivating the attendees to actively engage in their cooperative roles.

Day 1 (August 29): The first day of training focused on the fundamentals necessary for successful cooperative operations. Ms. Hanesa M. Sultan, CDS II, served as the resource speaker on the “Fundamentals of Cooperatives,” providing participants with essential knowledge about cooperative principles and practices. Following this, Sr. CDS Elvira C. Dioquino presented on the “Fundamentals of a Successful Enterprise and Cooperatives,” offering valuable insights into what makes cooperative enterprises thrive.

Day 2 (August 30): The second day covered “Governance and Management of Cooperatives,” with Raul T. Alcoran, Jr., CDS II, leading the session. Participants learned about effective governance structures and management practices vital for the sustainability and growth of their cooperatives.

The training provided a comprehensive understanding of the crucial aspects of cooperative management and operations, equipping the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen their cooperatives and contribute to the development of the coconut farming industry in the region.
