A proud moment for the cooperative sector in Taguigโ€”Draft Ordinance No. 154, โ€œ๐€๐ง ๐Ž๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐†๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‹๐จ๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐“๐š๐ฑ ๐„๐ฑ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‚๐จ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐“๐š๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ โ€, has been approved during the 2nd and final reading by the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Taguig. This ordinance means that eligible cooperatives will be exempted from paying local business taxes, allowing them to redirect more of their resources toward programs that directly benefit their members and the communities they serve. It is a clear recognition of the vital role that cooperatives play in building a more inclusive and sustainable local economy. The presence and unified voice of 25 cooperatives, together with the Taguig City Cooperative Development Council (TCCDC), and the 2 unions; Cooperative Union of Taguig and Pateros and Union of Defense and Public Safety Cooperatives helped push this ordinance forward. Their participation in the council hearing sent a strong message: when cooperatives work together, real change happens. We sincerely thank the City Council, particularly the Committee on Cooperatives and Peopleโ€™s Organizations led by Hon. Carlito Ogalinola, and the Committee on Ways and Means headed by Hon. Atty. Fanella Joy Panga-Cruz, and to Majority Floor Leader, Hon. Jaime Garcia for listening to the concerns of the sector and working to address them through policy. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our Mayor Lani Cayetano for her continued support of the cooperative movement, and to Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit for his leadership and for ensuring that the concerns of cooperatives are heard and acted upon. This is a step forwardโ€”not just for individual coops, but for the entire city. Taguig’s cooperatives now have more room to grow, to support their members better, and to reach more communities in need. Isang tagumpay na sama-samang naabot. Para sa mas matatag at mas makabuluhang kinabukasan ng mga kooperatiba sa Lungsod ng Taguig. #ILoveTaguig
