The Valenzuela Development Cooperative (VALDECO) officially forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) under the Koop Kapatid Program, facilitated by the Cooperative Development Authority – NCR Extension Office (CDA-NCREO). This program aimed to support beneficiary cooperatives in transitioning from Micro to Small and from Small to Medium categories. The Valenzuela Market and Trading Center Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Marulas Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative, both of which require technical guidance to further develop their management capabilities, were the beneficiaries.
The MOA was signed last April 7, 2025, at the CDA-NCREO Conference Room. The significant occasion was led by Regional Director Pedro T. Defensor, Jr. who delivered an inspirational message and also expressed his deep gratitude to VALDECO for their unwavering support to fellow cooperatives. VALDECO Officer Josephine Osea highlighted the importance of the sixth cooperative principle—Cooperation Among Cooperatives. This principle encouraged cooperatives to work together, share resources and expertise, and collaborate on joint initiatives to strengthen the overall cooperative movement.
Ms. May Q. Pacleb, Acting Head of the Cooperative Project Development and Assistance Section (CPDAS), discussed key elements of the MOA. These included the project’s duration and scope, the responsibilities of both the partner and beneficiary cooperatives, the effectivity and provisions for dispute resolution. Chairperson Felipe Nerbie Pascual of the Valenzuela Development Cooperative shared the sacrifices and challenges their cooperative had to overcome – taking risks and pushing forward through adversity. He emphasized the importance of sharing blessings, especially with those in need. Mary Anne Abuel of the Valenzuela Market and Trading Center Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Joselito D. Marajas of the Marulas Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative, expressed their heartfelt thanks to VALDECO for choosing them as beneficiaries. They acknowledged the valuable technical assistance that will contribute to the continued growth and development of their respective cooperatives.
The agreement signing was witnessed by Rosalie C. Valencia, General Manager of VALDECO; Mary Monte of Marulas Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative; and Arlene Eugenio of Valenzuela Market and Trading Center Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
