The Silliman University Medical Center Consumers Cooperative situated within the compound of Silliman University Medical Center(SUMC), Dumaguete City, serves the personnel of the hospital, foremost of all. The “consumer” as they call it, is their “run to store” when they are on duty and for their grocery to bring home. It also serves the “walk-in canteen” for those who have transactions/ check ups in the hospital.
At this time of the COVID-19 crisis, the cooperative is there to serve the members who are on duty everyday. The chairperson, Mr. Jose Siglos, said that the cooperative has to open to cater the needs of the members who are on duty in the different departments of the hospital. The consumer store sells groceries, snacks and meals that are affordable to members. According to another officer, Ms. Rose Omavid, they have set extra precautionary measures in their operation in this time of crisis, especially for the cooperative’s employees and their customers. They secured a working pass from the City Hall for the cooperative’s employees to enable them to report regularly
