Manila, Philippines – In a landmark event, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and the Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) in the Philippines have come together in a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA), solidifying their commitment to cooperative development among their members.

The MOA signing was held during ALCU’s National Conference held last March 20-21, 2024 at the Heritage Hotel Manila, signifies a significant step towards forging a better and stronger partnership in cooperative development through the local government universities and colleges. This collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities and capacities of cooperatives, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.

Under the agreement, both parties have agreed to collaborate on various initiatives, including training programs, research projects, and advocacy campaigns. The partnership will leverage the expertise and resources of both the CDA and ALCU to empower cooperatives and promote sustainable development in the country.

This collaboration will not only strengthen the cooperative sector but may also contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the Philippines and will also highlight the importance of the partnership in advancing cooperative education and advocacy among local government universities and colleges. Through this partnership, parties hope to instill the values of cooperation and solidarity among the stakeholders.

The ceremonial signing of the MOA was attended by Undersecretary Joseph B. Encabo, Chairperson and Agency Head of Cooperative Development Authority, Dr. Rene Colocar, National President of Association of Local Colleges and Universities, and witnessed by Dir. Pedro T. Defensor, Jr., Regional Director of CDA-NCR Extension Office, Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, ALCU Executive Director and ALCU-Commission on Accreditation (ACLUCOA) President, Mr. Ryan Andrew F. Dela Luna, Cooperative Development Specialist and Focal Person of CDA-NCREO Partnership with SUCs and LUCs, other key officials and members of the ALCU. This partnership was also  supported by the Head of the Education, Advocacy and Union Cooperatives Cluster, Assistant Secretary Adbulsalam A. Guinomla, Board Member III of CDA. =
